Merrion Project, Leeds
This scheme replaced a poor-quality 1970s office block with specialist accommodation for 660 students. The project offers accommodation to 87 postgraduates and 573 undergraduates living in a mix of apartments and studios, with retail space on the ground floor.
THE ARCHITECTURE
Simpson Haugh has compiled an impressive portfolio of award-winning projects since being founded in 1987. Simpson Haugh has the experience of designing and delivering a number of architecturally high-quality, award-winning student residences, delivering over 2,500 student bedrooms on city centre sites in Manchester, Newcastle and Coventry. Simpson Haugh’s portfolio also includes One Blackfriars, Dollar Bay and Chambers Wharf in London.
THE DESIGN
The Merrion Project is an elegant building providing an attractive focal point in a cluster of taller buildings. The building is part four, part 10 and part 32 storeys. A four-storey podium runs alongside Merrion Street. At the Briggate end, the building rises to 32 storeys, at the other end to 10 storeys. At its highest point, the building is 99.8 meters.
Globe Works, Birmingham
Prime purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), Globe Works offers an impressive range of high-quality student bed spaces and communal facilities, including a cinema room, gym and outdoor sports courtyard. Located in the heart of Birmingham, Globe Works is within walking distance of the City’s three universities and renowned shopping facilities.
This project signifies a considered and strategic investment in the UK Student Beds Market. Birmingham, as the UK’s second largest University city outside London, has experienced significant rental increases year-on-year since 2013, demonstrating a strong institutional demand for UK Purpose Built Student Accommodation and prime regional yields.
